Diamond weight
At the center is a 75.54-carat natural diamond graded Fancy Vivid Yellow, one of the strongest yellow color grades. Two round white diamonds sit with it, and together the three center stones make up the main cluster. Around them are 4,409 more diamonds. All 4,410 stones together have a diamond weight of about 1,373 carats.
Here’s what that means in plain terms. One carat is 0.2 grams, so 1,373 carats comes to roughly 275 grams, or about 0.6 pounds. The finished piece weighs just under four pounds, so most of the weight comes from the gold frame.
Gemstone setting
The hard part was making a metal structure move like lingerie. The bra has 3,218 individually designed parts in 18-karat white and yellow gold, with no fabric at all. The diamonds come in several shapes, including pear, round brilliant, heart, oval and marquise, plus Jacob & Co.’s own Angel-Cut, created for the jeweler’s 40th anniversary. The yellow diamond’s weight and position decided how the gemstone setting and supporting frame had to be built.
Handcrafted atelier work
Fifteen artisans worked on it for more than 1,000 hours. The design draws on Jacob & Co.’s Rare Touch collection, which is about shaping precious metal so it flexes with the body.
